Alright, let’s talk about fishin’ at that Odell Lake in Oregon. I ain’t no fancy writer, but I’ll tell ya what I know, same way I’d tell ya sittin’ on the porch.
First off, you gotta know when you can even go fishin’ there. They say it’s open from late April all the way to October 31st. But listen up, cause there’s a catch! You can’t be fishin’ near Trapper Creek’s mouth come September and October. They say 200 feet away, but I say, just stay clear of it to be safe. Don’t wanna get in trouble with them fishin’ folks, you know?
Now, this Odell Lake, it ain’t no small puddle. It’s a big ‘un, they say it’s six miles long and a mile and a half wide. That’s a lot of water, and it’s deep too! Deeper than my well, that’s for sure. They say it’s more than 200 feet deep in some places, but mostly it’s around 130 feet deep. Plenty of room for them fish to hide, I reckon.
What kinda fish you gonna catch? Well, they got trout, and them kokanee salmon. Them kokanee, they’re tasty little fellers. You can catch a whole mess of ’em, 25 a day they say, on top of your trout limit. And no need to measure ’em, no size limits on them kokanee at Odell Lake. That’s good, cause my eyes ain’t what they used to be.
They also mentioned somethin’ ’bout Haystack Reservoir. It’s near Odell Lake, I think. Smaller, but still got fish. Bass, crappie, and more trout, they say. If Odell’s too crowded, maybe you can try there.
Now, how you gonna catch them fish? Well, that’s the tricky part, ain’t it? I ain’t got no fancy boat or nothin’. Just a pole and some worms usually does the trick for me. But if you wanna be fancy, they got them weekly fishin’ reports. Oregon Department of Fish somethin’ or other puts ’em out. Tells ya where the fish are bitin’ and what they’re bitin’ on. Might be worth checkin’ out if you ain’t got a clue.
- Important stuff to remember:
- No fishin’ near Trapper Creek in September and October.
- 25 kokanee a day, plus your trout.
- No size limits on kokanee at Odell.
- Haystack Reservoir is another option.
- Check them fishin’ reports.
- And one more thing, no ice fishin’ at Odell! It’s too deep and dangerous, I reckon. Don’t be a fool and try it.
They’re always collectin’ data, them fishin’ folks. ODFW and Kokanee Power, they call themselves. They wanna know how many fish are in the lake, how big they are, that kinda stuff. Good for them, I guess. As long as they let me catch a few, I’m happy.
Fishin’ ain’t always about catchin’ fish, though. It’s about bein’ outside, enjoyin’ the fresh air and the quiet. Odell Lake is a pretty place, even if you don’t catch nothin’. Just sittin’ by the water, watchin’ the birds, that’s good enough for me sometimes.
But let’s be honest, catchin’ fish is better! So, get yourself a license, pack your gear, and head on over to Odell Lake. You might just catch yourself a tasty dinner. And if you see me there, don’t be shy, come on over and say howdy. We can swap fishin’ stories, or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet together.
Remember to always follow the rules and regulations. They’re there for a reason, to keep the fishin’ good for everyone. And be respectful of the lake and the wildlife. Leave it cleaner than you found it, that’s what I always say.
So there you have it, my fishin’ report for Odell Lake. It ain’t fancy, but it’s the truth, as best as I know it. Now get out there and catch some fish!
