Well, let me tell ya, if ya ever find yourself in Central Oregon, you gotta check out Lake Simtustus. It’s a long and narrow lake, real deep too, sittin’ right there below Lake Billy Chinook, near Madras. Folks around here, they love fishin’, and I can see why. This lake, it’s got all kinds of fish swimmin’ about—everything from smallmouth bass to rainbow trout, and even a few kokanee if you’re lucky. In the summer, there ain’t no shortage of fish to catch, and if you come in the winter, you can still drop a line since it’s the only Tribal water open for fishin’ during the cold months.
The lake’s a real beauty, stretchin’ about seven miles long. Now, don’t let that fool ya, ’cause it’s deep too. The deepest part of the lake goes down to a whole 155 feet! I tell ya, you’d better be careful with your boat, or you might end up on the bottom of that thing. The water’s real clear, and I’ve heard it’s a real good spot for fishin’ if you’re after a big catch.
Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but I can tell ya that folks around here love to fish for rainbow trout. I’ve seen a lotta folks come down here with their poles, hopin’ to catch a big one, and sometimes they even plant some more trout in the lake. That’s real nice of ’em, keeps things fresh. If you’re after bass, there’s plenty of that too, both smallmouth and largemouth. Them fish can put up a real good fight, so be ready!
If ya ask me, one of the best things about this place is the fish cleanin’ station they got here. Now, I ain’t sayin’ you won’t get your hands dirty, but at least they got a place for ya to clean your fish before you head home. Makes it a whole lot easier. And if you’re lucky enough to catch somethin’ real big, you might even get a chance to enter one of the fishin’ contests they hold throughout the year. Ain’t that somethin’?
And you know, it’s not just the fishin’ that’s good here. The lake’s got a real nice spot for folks who like to get out and enjoy the outdoors. It’s quiet and peaceful, and with the right weather, it’s a perfect place to relax by the water. If you like to fish in peace and quiet, this place will be your little slice of heaven.
Oh, and I almost forgot to tell ya, Lake Simtustus, it’s got a bit of history too. It was named after an Indian warrior, Simtustus, who served with the U.S. army back in the 1800s. So when you’re out there fishin’, just remember you’re standin’ on land that’s got a bit of a storied past to it.
If you’re lookin’ for a place to fish, enjoy the outdoors, and maybe even win a prize or two, Lake Simtustus is the place to be. It’s got everything you need—good fishin’, a nice cleanin’ station, and a peaceful spot to spend your day. So grab your gear, head on down, and cast that line! You won’t regret it.
