May 2002 Daily Fishing ReportsTuesday, May 28: Upper Buzzards BayTalk About Fish City This was the kind of day which might convince you that everything is just fine with the striped bass stocks as there were more small schoolies than you could ask for, as well as small blues.
Bill Ridder, a member of the fisheries staff in Alaska, was aboard with a friend with the main purpose of breaking in Bill's new fly rod.
Well, he certainly didn't have any difficulty doing that as today played out as one of those spring days that folks talk about when they speak of 100 fish day.
Wherever we went, there were birds and fish, mostly small, but more than willing to put a bend in Bill's rod and a smile on all of our faces. Wednesday, May 22: Middle Ground and Woods Hole A Question of Wind Today I got to fish with Steve Karlson and the wind certainly didn't do us any favors
While I could see a charter captain I know doing pretty well closer in to the Vineyard trolling wire and his custom jigs, Middle Ground wasn't as productive with the water dirty for the most part.
There were some small fish in the Hole, but overall it was a slow day. May 8, 2002: Buzzards Bay/Woods Hole A Good Start to the Season With work on the trailer finally completed, it was time to go fishing and I couldn't have asked for a better group of anglers to get the cobwebs out than Harry Wilcox and his friends Mike Pellini and Jerry Williamson.
After picking up Mike's first legal sized fish around the west entrance to the Canal, things were just too slow and I elected to pull the Katie G. and work Woods Hole.
Sure enough, the Hole was alive with fish as it is so often in May and we spent the rest of the trip working Middle Ledge as schools of bass made quite a sight pushing bait all over the surface. It was one of those days that people speak of when they talk about just having to use a chartreuse and white Clouser to catch all the fish they want. |
