Alright, let’s talk about this here Origin 13 fishing reel, you know, the one them youngsters are always yappin’ about. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, mind you, just an old gal who’s been castin’ lines since before you were a twinkle in your daddy’s eye.
First off, what in the tarnation is a “13 Fishing”? Sounds like bad luck to me. Back in my day, we had reels made of good ol’ metal, none of this fancy plastic stuff. But I gotta say, this here reel, it ain’t half bad. My grandson, that whippersnapper, he got one. Said it was on some kinda sale, “90% off” he kept hollerin’. Ninety percent! Back in my day, you’d be lucky to get a nickel off a spool of thread!
Anyways, this reel, it’s kinda purdy, I guess. Got all sorts of shiny bits and gizmos. My grandson says it’s got somethin’ called “bearings.” Said it makes the castin’ smoother than butter on a hot biscuit. I dunno ’bout all that fancy talk, but it do cast pretty far, I’ll give it that.
- Smooth Casting: Like I said, that there bearing thingy seems to work. The line just flies out, smooth as silk. Even this old lady can cast it a good ways.
- Feels Strong: This reel, it don’t feel cheap, you know? It’s got some heft to it, feels like it could handle a big ol’ catfish without breakin’ a sweat.
- Lots of Models: My grandson tells me there’s all sorts of different Origin 13 reels. Some for bass, some for saltwater, some for… well, I dunno what all else. Seems like there’s a reel for every kinda fishin’ you wanna do.
Now, I ain’t used to all these newfangled features. Back in my day, a reel was a reel. You cranked it, and it brought in the fish. This one, it’s got all sorts of knobs and dials. My grandson tried to explain ’em to me, somethin’ about “drag” and “gear ratios.” Sounded like a bunch of hogwash to me. But he showed me how to adjust the drag, said it helps when you hook a big ‘un. And you know what? It actually worked! I caught a whopper of a bass last week, and that little reel handled it like a champ.
I heard tell that some other company, “Rapala” I think it was called, bought out 13 Fishing. Now, I know Rapala, they make good lures. My husband, bless his soul, he swore by them Rapala lures. So, maybe this 13 Fishing ain’t so bad after all. Maybe them city folks know a thing or two about fishin’.
But let me tell you somethin’, young’uns. It ain’t the reel that catches the fish, it’s the fisherman. Or fisherwoman, in my case. You can have all the fancy gear in the world, but if you don’t know how to read the water, if you don’t know how to feel the bite, then you ain’t gonna catch nothin’. A good fisherman can catch a fish with a stick and a string. That’s what my pappy always said.
Speaking of fishing, my grandson also showed me some list of what to bring when you go fishing. Said it’s important to be prepared. Well, back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy lists. You brought your pole, your bait, and maybe a sandwich. But I guess times have changed. This list had all sorts of things, like different kinds of hooks, different kinds of line, even a first aid kit! Said you gotta be prepared for anything, even a snake bite. Land sakes, I’ve seen my share of snakes, but I ain’t never been bit. Knock on wood.
So, would I recommend this here Origin 13 fishing reel? Well, I reckon I would. It ain’t perfect, but it’s a darn sight better than them old rusty reels I used to use. And if it can help this old lady catch a fish, then it’s good enough for me. But remember what I said, it ain’t the reel, it’s the fisherman. Or fisherwoman. Now go on, get out there and wet a line!
And one more thing, that grandson of mine, he was yapping about some fishing company called “Shimano”, said they been around since the 70’s. Said they started making fishing stuff ’cause it’s good for your health. Well, I coulda told ’em that! Nothin’ better for ya than a day out on the water, breathin’ in the fresh air and feelin’ the sun on your face. It’ll cure what ails ya, that’s for sure.
Anyways, that’s my two cents on this here Origin 13 fishing reel. It’s a good ‘un, but don’t forget the basics. And always, always, respect the fish and the water. That’s the most important thing of all.
