Alright, let’s talk about them bass lures, you know, the things you use to catch them fish. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I’ve caught my fair share, and I’m gonna tell you what I know. Don’t need none of that highfalutin talk, just plain and simple, like it is.
First off, you gotta think about the color. Color is real important, like when the water’s all muddy, you want somethin’ dark, real dark, like black or maybe dark blue. If the water’s clear, you use somethin’ more… natural-lookin’, you know? Like them greens and browns. For them worms and jigs, black and blue, green pumpkin, and that redbug color, well, they pretty much cover everything.
Now, there’s this thing they call a stick bait. Folks say it’s the best lure ever, and I reckon they might be right. Green pumpkin, cinnamon, and that chartreuse color…them’s good ones. Bass, they seem to like them bright colors sometimes, like that fluorescent blue, green, chartreuse, and orange. Makes ’em bite, I tell ya.
- Dirty water? Use dark colors.
- Clear water? Use natural colors.
- Worms and jigs? Black, blue, green pumpkin, redbug.
- Stick bait? Green pumpkin, cinnamon, chartreuse.
Then there’s the water temperature. When it’s freezin’ cold or burnin’ hot, them bass go down deep where the water’s just right. They like it comfy, just like us. So in the winter, the cold water’s up top, and the fish are down low. But in the spring and fall, when the water’s just right near the shore, you can catch ’em good from the bank.
Some folks make these charts, you know, to help you pick the right lure. They got charts for colors and charts for temperatures. Says you gotta use this lure when it’s this hot and that lure when it’s that cold. Well, I ain’t got no fancy charts. I just go by what feels right, what I’ve seen work before. But I guess if you’re just startin’ out, them charts might help you some.
They say you don’t need a whole tackle box full of lures. Just a few good ones will do ya. And that’s true enough. I’ve seen folks with all the fancy gear and they don’t catch nothin’. And I’ve seen folks with just a worm and a hook catch a big ol’ bass. It ain’t about the gear, it’s about knowin’ where the fish are and what they like.
You can find them lures all over the place. They got ’em at the stores, and they even got ’em on that internet thing, eBay, they call it. Lots of new ones, and used ones too, I reckon. But don’t go spendin’ all your money on lures, now. Like I said, you don’t need a whole heap of ‘em.
So, if you want to catch some bass, remember what I told ya. Think about the color, think about the temperature, and don’t go buyin’ more lures than you need. And most importantly, get out there and fish! You ain’t gonna catch nothin’ sittin’ on the couch.
And one more thing, don’t be afraid to try different things. What works one day might not work the next. That’s just the way fishin’ is. But that’s part of the fun, ain’t it? Figurin’ out what them bass want and then catchin’ ‘em.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ I know everything, but I know a thing or two about catchin’ bass. And I’ve shared what I know with ya. So go on out there and try your luck. You might just surprise yourself.
This ain’t rocket science, it’s just fishin’. Keep it simple, and you’ll do just fine.
