Well, let me tell ya, if you’re ever wanderin’ around near Corvallis, Oregon, you might wanna stop by this place called E.E. Wilson Pond. It’s a little bit outta the way, but I reckon it’s worth the trip if you like fishin’ or just want a nice place to relax. It’s only about 9 miles north of Corvallis, just off Highway 99W, so it ain’t too hard to find if you’re passin’ through. You’ll see a sign for E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area, that’s where you need to go. Now, don’t go thinkin’ it’s just some ol’ pond, cause there’s more to it than meets the eye.
You see, E.E. Wilson Pond is a real nice spot, especially if you like trout fishin’. They stock it with them fish from February all the way till June, so you can catch yourself some good-sized ones if you’re lucky. Folks come from all over to try their hand at catchin’ a trout or two. Now, I ain’t no expert at fishin’, but I’ve seen plenty of people who know what they’re doin’, and they sure look like they’re havin’ a good time. Just make sure you’ve got your proper fishin’ license, you don’t wanna get in trouble for that!
And if you’re not much for fishin’, well, this place ain’t just for that. There’s a whole wildlife area to explore. You might come across a Dusky Footed Wood Rat, or what some folks call packrats. I don’t know much about ’em, but I hear they like to hide things, so watch your pockets, ya never know what they might steal! There’s a nice little trail there, called the E.E. Wilson Interpretive Trail, where you can walk around and enjoy nature. It’s a good place to stretch your legs and take in the fresh air. Plus, you can learn a bit about the wildlife in the area if that’s somethin’ that interests you.
Now, don’t go thinkin’ it’s all quiet and peaceful. There’s a bit of history to this place too. Back in the 1940s, this land was used for somethin’ a bit more serious. It was a U.S. Army training camp called Camp Adair during World War II. Over 60,000 soldiers trained here during the war, so there’s a lot of history beneath the dirt and trees. It’s kinda hard to imagine, but I guess that’s how it goes with these old places. There’s still remnants of that old camp scattered around, if you’re interested in a bit of history alongside your nature walk.
And if you’re lookin’ to do more than just fishin’ or walkin’ around, there’s some huntin’ opportunities too. Now, I’m not one for huntin’, but I hear they got special rules for it here. They only allow shotgun huntin’ with non-toxic shot and archery huntin’. So if you’re into huntin’, make sure you know the rules and have your gear ready. The huntin’ season starts in late August and runs through the end of February, so plan accordingly. Just be sure to respect the place and follow the rules, we wouldn’t want no trouble.
All in all, E.E. Wilson Pond is a nice little getaway if you like the outdoors. Whether you’re fishin’, huntin’, walkin’, or just enjoyin’ the peace and quiet, it’s a place where you can spend some time and appreciate the beauty of nature. And don’t forget, it’s a part of that ol’ history too, so you’re gettin’ a bit of both worlds – a nice little spot to escape the hustle and bustle, and a place that’s seen a lot in its time.
